Algoratio is short for algorithmic reason (Latin ratio) or rationality. Algorithmic rationality (AR) stands for the ability of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to take rational decisions. At the same time, the term acknowledges that general intelligence or common sense is a far aim for artificial intelligence developers that, as of now, remains elusive. Therefore, AI engineers and users should have rational expectations on what algorithms can and can’t do.
